Japanese Movie Night

Japanese Movie Night

J-Sei at the Movies
Friday, September 13, 6:30 pm (on Zoom)

J-Sei Movie Night is in its 7th year dedicated to the wonderful and fascinating world of Japanese cinema. It’s a fun way to learn about and discuss Japanese history and culture through the lens of international film and commentary.

This month, we explore a much loved genre in Japanese literature and TV/film: the murder mystery. Please join us to watch and discuss SUSPECT X / 容疑者Xの献身 (2008), starring Fukuyama Masaharu (Like Father, Like SonThe Third Murder) as “Galileo,” a brilliant but eccentric physicist battling wits with an equally brilliant nemesis in a case that is stumping the entire police force. Based on the acclaimed bestselling novel by Higashino Keigo and featuring the cast of the popular TV series, we’ll consider, among other things, what makes a good mystery satisfying and whether there are any unique traits that distinguish a Japanese mystery from counterparts in other countries.

Hope you can join us on Friday, September 13, at 6:30pm on Zoom. Send your RSVP to Jill (jill@j-sei.org) with “Sept movie night” in the subject line. We’ll send you Zoom info and reminders beforehand.
