Overview

J-Sei is a nonprofit community care and cultural organization that brings families and generations together to nurture and pass on Nikkei values and traditions that remain at the core of our services.

J-Sei Home is a 14-bed licensed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) in Hayward, CA. The care is based on Nikkei traditions with an emphasis on Japanese and Asian meals, engaging activities and a warm, supportive environment. Experienced staff coordinate care to maximize the older adult’s quality of life and provides a comfortable living environment.

Job Description

J-Sei Home is looking for compassionate and experienced caregivers for our Hayward home for older adults. Enjoy the rewards and joys of working with seniors and their families while assisting them with daily needs and activities with kindness and dedication. Day and evening shifts available.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage, supervise, and engage the residents in activities
  • Assist in food service, feeding, and residents’ personal grooming
  • Supervise administration and taking of medication
  • Laundry and house cleaning duties
  • Maintain house log books and individual resident log books with information about visitors, activities, incidents, etc.
  • Assist families with special events (birthday parties, etc.) and prepare resident for when visitor planning to take resident out of the facility
  • Accept instruction and supervision from the Administrator to improve job skills, know and follow house rules, and gain knowledge and training wherever possible
  • Security and Safety: check all locks, windows and doors in the morning and during the day, respond to calls for emergency assistance from the residents, and know “911” procedures.
  • Report actual or suspected Elder Abuse

Qualifications

  • Experience providing eldercare (past experience can be care provided to an elder family member)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of Caregiver Training, including Medication Management Training at the facility
  • Able to communicate in English and/or Japanese
  • References from past employers who can attest to good character and work habits.
  • Criminal Background clearance from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Fingerprinting required
  • First Aide Certification
  • Acceptable results on a current Tuberculosis test and health certificate from doctor
  • Physical and mental ability to do general house cleaning
  • Ability to manage time to care for multiple elderly individuals.
